Artist Statement

Art is the one constant thread that runs throughout my life.  I interpret what I see and feel into my paintings. It is cathartic for me to express my emotions through the paint and my hope is to strike an emotional chord with the viewer.

In my Storm series, I explore the violent passion of a storm, the collision of opposing air systems wreaking havoc with a peaceful environment.  It is a metaphor for living today in our world; thankfully, there is a silver lining. Soaring to new heights in a hot air balloon led to my fascination of painting from a bird’s eye view in my Elevation series. Cultures across the span of history have gravitated to the mountains for peace and clarity. Imposing abstraction to recognizable scenes creates space for the viewer to bring their own experiences to my work.  Freud said, “Dreams are the royal road to the subconscious.” It seems that my road paintings tend to tap into the subconscious as well; the suggestion of a journey resonates, and we see the path before us with all its possibilities.

Bio

Cynthia McLoughlin is a contemporary American painter. Her stylized work is characterized by the reflective qualities of the metal panels on which she paints.  “I am always looking for new ways to let the reflective light show through”. She studied Fine Art at the Muncin, Williams, Proctor Institute/State University of New York in Utica, NY, and Fashion Design at Parsons School of Design, in New York City, NY, earning an AAS and BFA respectively.  She worked as a fashion designer, married, and raised her children, moving around the country quite a bit during this time, always keeping a hand in creative activities. Cynthia rekindled her passion for painting in 2008.  She has since exhibited her works in numerous international art shows including Art Basel, Switzerland, the Monaco Yacht Show in Monte Carlo, Monaco, Art Basel-Miami, in Florida, as well as shows in New York, California, Connecticut, and Utah in the United States.  She is currently represented by the Summit Gallery in Park City, Utah.

Along with her passion for creating art, Ms. McLoughlin enjoys being part of an artistic community, participating in shows, learning to navigate social media, and selling her work. She is a member of The National Association of Women Artists, based in New York City.
